Hmmm, nobody is going our way! It is a Saturday morning in September and everyone is going north causing long lines on the Mackinaw Bridge, the Mighty Mac. The photo might be very different if it were taken on a Sunday afternoon when the traffic on the Bridge and I75 is headed south. For bridge traffic all over the world, please do visit the Sunday Bridge website of San Francisco's Louis LaVache.
Have I told you that the Yoopers (Michiganders living in the Upper Peninsula) call the folks from the Lower Peninsula "trolls," that is ones who liver under the bridge? There is a definite rivalry and the Yoopers who have come south to work in the factories consider themselves living in exile.
And one more piece of Michigan trivia: the state motto expressed on the state flag is "Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice." (If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.) And there are two of them that make up the state. And thus the need for the Mighty Mac. For more on Michigan, visit the Michigan Department of Transportation website.
At first I thought the driver was going to wrong way on a highway. Glad it's just avoiding the traffic. It's a nice bridge, but not worth sitting in traffic. I suppose there's something worthwhile on the other side.
ReplyDeleteAround here, Manila, we ALWAYS try to go counter flow! The traffic is just a horror.
ReplyDeleteit pays to live in paradise.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to have a Pasty while in the U.P.
ReplyDeleteThanks all! And B2 don't miss ABC Wednesday in two weeks when the letter is P. We had pasties on the beach at Bay Furnace and before they were devoured I had one sit for a formal portrait!
ReplyDeleteI guess it's sometimes good to leave home! Nice bridge shot.
ReplyDeleteA few months ago, we were going the "right" way, out of the city to the mountains for a weekend getaway... believe me, it was not fun to be stuck in crawling traffic that took us 3 hours to cover 25 miles :-(
ReplyDeleteYour in the good hand...drivers knows best! Great photographs.
