Wild preacher

This Jack in the Pulpit had me on my knees, as I tried to see eye to eye with him!  These "preachers" are not as profuse as the trillium in the little woods next to the vineyard.  Isn't their shape extraordinary?

  1. Nice wildlife. I was working in the yard the other day and now I have poison ivy. The problem is, I can't recognize it. I guess my husband will have to do all the yardwork now!

  2. so sorry about the poison ivy! I have started worrying about it since it is everywhere that Willow and I walk.

  3. That plant has always reminded «Louis» more of a cobra than a pulpit - though there have been more than a few snakes of the Elmer Gantry variety in the pulpit, too!

Helen - «Louis» sent you an e-mail re your coffee order.

  4. My mom is highly allergic to it. She can get it just from the pollen in the air. I hope that I will not get that sensitive b/c I actually do like working in the garden. :)

  5. I remember many, many years ago going into my grandparents woods on their farm near Kalkaska and looking for Jack in the Pulpit and Dutchman Breeches and other wild flowers. This photograph
    brought back many memories. Thanks.

  7. From my walks in the wood with my dad, this is one of the two plants I remember--the other is skunk cabbage.
